本专业管弦乐队成立于1965年，是省艺术学院音乐系在淮南组建的一支配置完整、水平很高、成绩、影响甚大的双管编制管弦乐队，历时多年坚持演奏高雅音乐会，为高雅音乐的普及、提高以及进高校、进市场做出了积极的探索和贡献。
